The Gospel

Four Truths (taken from What is the Gospel? by Greg Gilbert)

  1. God is our righteous Creator.
  2. All people are sinners.
  3. Jesus Christ is the Savior.
  4. Our response is repentance and faith.

The Message of the Gospel

The gospel is the good news that sinful people who deserve God’s wrath can have peace with God through the substitutionary death, burial, and resurrection of His Son, Jesus Christ.

Rom 3:23; John 3:36; Rom 5:1; 2 Cor 5:21; 1 Cor 15:3-4; John 3:16

The Response to the Gospel

The appropriate response to the gospel is to turn away from our sin (repentance) and place our faith (trust) in Christ and His atoning work on the cross.

Mark 1:15; 1 John 2:2

The Result of Saving Faith

The result of salvation is that God no longer considers us guilty of sin but acquits us of all sin and guilt because of the finished work of Jesus and we get to spend eternity with God in His presence.

Isa 53:4-6; 2 Cor 5:21; Rev 21:3; 22:5

The Evidence of Saving Faith

The evidence of our salvation is continued growth in holiness and obedience to God’s Word. We can never be perfect or free from sin in this life.

Phil 1:6; John 8:31-32; 14:15, 21; 1 John 2:3-6; Phil 3:12-14; 1 John 1:8
